History

Founded in 1984 for all cat lovers in and around Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire.

The Wyvern Cat Club was founded in 1984 by a group of friends led by Anna Bailey, in order to provide a focal point for all cat lovers' in the Hereford/Worcester/North Gloucester area. We aimed, as we still do, to promote best practice in owning, breeding and showing both pedigree and non-pedigree cats. In the early days we used to hold monthly meetings at Claines village hall in Worcester and held regular social events such as garden parties, quizzes and trips to places of (feline) interest. Our monthly meetings included talks by guest speakers and by members with tales to tell!

This is a picture of some of our founder members at a garden party in 1985 or 1986. A few of us remain.....!

In 1986 we held our first exhibition show on Worcester race course in conjunction with the Worcester Carnival. It was a bit hairy - we were in a canvass marquee!! But it got us started in organising and managing cat shows and in 1995 we held our first all-breed championship show. 2013 will be our 18th show and it will be held as usual at Perdiswell Leisure Centre in Worcester in mid-September.

In the last few years the ability to access information via the internet and the rise of social media has meant that regular meetings have become less relevant as a major means of communication and so no longer take place. We do however continue to keep in touch with members by email and through the website where we can.

Our membership now stands at around 125 and members are supplied with a Club Journal annually each December and a newsletter during July. We also award rosettes to cats gaining titles at our AGM in March.
